Portable AC units can grow your business

This week Hawco has launched a new state-of-the-art portable AC unit from Aspen Xtra, and with UK temperatures this July already reaching 36.7°C (the highest since records began 165 years ago), their timing couldn’t be better. In this article, Tom Mitchener, marketing manager for Hawco, highlights the importance of portable AC units and how holding stock could help you grow your business and reduce the negative impact caused by the heat on the UK’s economy.

This week we've launched a new state-of-the-art portable AC unit from Aspen Xtra, and with UK temperatures this July already reaching 36.7°C (the highest since records began 165 years ago), the timing couldn’t be better.

In offices and homes across the UK people are trying to stay cool. Every morning since the heat wave began we’ve heard people from across the UK rejoice, or complain about the increase in temperature.

According to the Daily Mirror, the heat has caused a series of delays and closures on the railways after ‘Network Rail warned tracks could buckle in the heat’ and confirmed ‘…speed restrictions were likely to continue.’ There are also fears of school closures and delays to the NHS, not to mention the high court side temperatures for the stars and spectators at Wimbledon.

The PHE (Public Health England) issued a level 3 alert yesterday afternoon, with at least a 60% chance of temperatures affecting health. They have also urged bosses to let staff stagger their journeys home to avoid excessive heat in rush hour transport.

The increase in temperature the UK is experiencing is likely to have a dramatic impact on the nation’s economy. In August 2013 it was reported by the BBC that ‘The Centre for Economics and Business Research, a London-based think tank, calculated the summer’s heat wave was costing the British economy up to £280m a day’.

Benefits of portable AC units to an installer

Rather than viewing portable AC units as a short term, one-off solution, AC installers should view them as a means of generating new business. When the UK gets hot, the UK’s air conditioning installers get very busy - very, very busy.

Understandably for AC installers across the UK, landing a large contract for commercial offices is the icing on the cake, but being able to supply a smaller business or school with a portable AC unit in a time of need will reflect brilliantly on your own business and go a long way to landing you a larger contract in the future.

Tip: once you have stock of a number of portable AC units, why not set-up a Facebook page for your business (if you don’t have one already) and run a series of adverts targeted at UK businesses looking to rent a portable on a temporary basis? These adverts can have a tangible ROI and will only set you back a few hundred pounds.

So why choose Aspen’s portable AC unit?

Aspen’s portable AC unit has been developed and created for installers using knowledge gained through years of experience in the HVAC sector. Using only the best quality materials and manufactured to the highest standard, the Aspen Xtra range of products offers installation engineers the flexibility and reliability for all installation support needs.

Features of Aspen’s portable AC unit include:

  • 12,000 Btu/h - 3.5kW cooling capacity
  • Large colour digital display
  • Infra-red remote control
  • Sleep, eco, timer functions
  • Applicable area - 13.27sq m
