DuPont Refrigerants raises Suva prices

DUPONT Fluorochemical Refrigerants has announced a price hike for its Suva refrigerant blends in Europe, Middle East and Africa, effective with shipments on or after April 1, 2008.

The global refrigerant supplier said, depending on packaging, the price will rise by as much as 10% for bulk and cylinders (returnables and disposables) and 14% for ton tanks.

"Increasing oil and gas prices and subsequently escalating raw material cost for the refrigerant industry, are making a revision of current prices inevitable," said Gonzalo Alonso, sales manager DuPont Refrigerants EMEA.

"In addition, sulphur, used in the production of hydrofluoric acid
prices have almost quintubled in recent weeks, principally due to a higher demand for crop protection chemicals.

He added, "Flourspar and chlorine costs continue to go up significantly as well. Transportation costs remain high, adding to the overall unfavourable situation."
