Green Point hosts screw compressor workshop

Engineers from Pennine Environmental Services recently undertook a one-day training course in the latest screw compressor technology, organised by Green Point UK, Bitzer’s compressor remanufacturing arm.

Pennine engineers had access to Green Point's expertise at every stage of the disassembling and reassembling process.

Three of the contractor’s refrigeration engineers, two experienced and one a trainee, attended the hands-on workshop at Green Point UK’s headquarters in Milton Keynes.

Training sessions were led by Mick Nicholson, Green Point’s senior compressor remanufacturing technician, and covered design and operation of screw compressors, and offered practical experience in fault diagnosis.

The engineers were tasked with disassembling a returned semi-hermetic screw compressor and assessing the reasons for failure. The project was completed by reassembling an open-type unit to full operational status.

Mark Bailey-Stansfield, Pennine Environmental Services’ technical operations manager, said: “Our engineers found the day extremely worthwhile, and the hands-on experience particularly valuable. It gave the opportunity to strip a screw compressor down to the component level, examine and report on their findings, and then rebuild a unit from scratch.”

Will Pribyl, general manager of Green Point UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to offer this tailored course for Pennine Refrigeration, and that it proved such a worthwhile day.

“We are now offering similar tailored courses for customers wishing to update their engineers on compressor technology, and are happy to discuss requirements on a case-by-case basis with interested companies.”
