globalFACT unites refrigeration experts in Quito

As world leaders and diplomats have gathered in Quito, Ecuador on 05-09 November for the 30th Meeting of the Parties (MOP 30) to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, the Global Forum for Advanced Climate Technologies (globalFACT) has hosted a panel of experts from across the HVACR sphere.

The panel discussion, entitled Challenges and Opportunities in Refrigerant Transition, took place on 06 November in order to provide insight into the broad range of solutions available to meet environmental regulatory goals.

“globalFACT strongly supports the goals of the meeting. We recognise the important role the HVACR industry plays in helping protect the environment on a global scale,” said Jordan Smith, globalFACT executive director.

Speakers consisted of Kevin Fay, executive director at The Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy; Greg Picker, executive director of Refrigerants Australia; Mark Stanga, president, Competition Advocates, on behalf of Daikin Industries; and Mike Thompson, global director of refrigerant applications at Ingersoll Rand.

Mr Smith added: “globalFACT’s mission is to help foster an understanding of all of the lower GWP options available as end users move to more environmentally-sustainable products and practices. There are options that can work for everyone.”

Launched in September, globalFACT has released a white paper, Selecting the Right Refrigerant for Commercial Refrigeration: Achieving High Performance While Reducing Environmental Impact, which aids in the decision-making process when choosing alternative refrigerants in commercial refrigeration equipment.

The group has also unveiled a cost calculator that calculates the electricity costs and total emissions based on characteristics of a commercial refrigeration system.
