First IIR International Conference on HFO Refrigerants to be held in Birmingham

The IOR will be hosting the inaugural IIR International Conference on the application of HFO Refrigerants from 2nd to 5th September 2018 in Birmingham.

The IOR will be hosting the inaugural IIR International Conference on the application of HFO Refrigerants from 2nd to 5th September 2018 in Birmingham.

The three-day conference will provide a focus for global experience on the use of low flammable A2L classification refrigerants, which encompass the new generation of HFO refrigerants heralded as replacements for high GWP HFC refrigerants. The event will cover essential information for designers, manufacturers, end users and installers about characteristics of low GWP refrigerants, system and component design, lubricants, flammability, legislation, codes of practice and standards.

Andy Pearson FInstR, chairman of conference planning panel, said: “The IOR is proud to be attracting world experts in the application of HFO refrigerants to the UK and providing this unique international showcase for UK industry. This programme will provide a counterpoint to last year’s highly successful 12th IIR Gustav Lorentzen Natural Working refrigerants conference, which was also held in the UK. The IOR’s International Refrigeration Committee continues to work to bring together the scientific community, design engineers and refrigeration and air conditioning system users to advance the applications of cooling using different technologies for the benefit of all.”

With the HFC phase-down programme now being implemented in Europe (and likely to be adopted in many other regions), this conference will provide an opportunity for those developing new working fluids to meet with the equipment design engineers who provide products and the system installers who use them, together with representatives of the end-user community who have to live with the consequences of these scientific and technical decisions. It will be a unique chance for these groups to interact in a forum specifically focussed on the practical aspects of developing these new refrigerants.

A call for papers will be issued in June 2018. In addition to papers focusing on A2L Refrigerants, the conference will accept papers that include either practical or theoretical comparisons of other LGWP fluids such as ammonia, CO2 and hydrocarbons. These papers will be expected to compare and contrast experiences of those refrigerants versus HFOs.
