Flammable gases - the contractor's dilemma (04/02/2013 17:13:38)

An excellent editorial in this month's magazine highlights the very real likelihood that in the very near future we contractors will be getting used to having to install, service, maintain and repair air conditioning and heat pump units containing flammable gases. OK they may be considered "mildly flammable" by some but, as I've said before, flammable is flammable as far as my insurance underwriters are concerned and my premiums will undoubtedly rise once they cotton to this fact.

F Gas Review - Designed to contain confusion (03/12/2012 21:42:56)

I am aware that there have been concerns expressed that the wording "designed to contain" has been omitted from the proposed new regulation's update on the original F Gas regulation. Allow me to put the record straight and put a stop to this damaging confusion.

The policy that penalises efficiency (01/06/2012 14:40:25)

Political interference is in the air again, this time in Brussels with the usual half thought out policy with little or no understanding of consequence of actions.

Climategate 2 - the saga continues........ (23/09/2011 13:47:02)

Hilarious reading this week on the web and in our papers about the fiasco of the redrawn map of Greenland. The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World has been updated and in the brain-washing, never mind the facts here's the b***ocks style to which we've all become so accustomed in recent years on the subject of climate change, they decided to draw Greenland with much of the permanent ice sheet missing and claiming that this has now disappeared because of man made global warming. The publicity at the launch suggested that 15% of the Greenland ice sheet had become "green and ice free".

F-gas deadline day (01/07/2011 14:38:14)

I heard a very worrying statistic today. Four days before the deadline for companies to hold full F Gas Certificates and only around 50% of those who held the nonsensical "interim" certificates have upgraded. This means that around 2,500 companies will be effectively trading illegally at the start of next week - unless of course they all intend submitting full certificate applications over the coming weekend.

A wake-up call for manufacturers (01/12/2010 17:37:48)

My last blog certainly created a stir - a good number of responses from a variety of sources and several others contacting me directly rather than going public. I've also been in dialogue with a couple of the larger manufacturers as well as with EPEE, the European body representing manufacturers. The attitude towards the proposal seems generally pretty clear: large Japanese and American manufacturers are against the proposal; contractors and SME manufacturers are for the proposal.

Banning pre-charged split systems (02/11/2010 09:41:52)

I've had a busy period recently, not only for my business, but in my voluntary roles with HVCA and AREA. We've recently had the AREA Autumn General Assembly in Brussels, closely followed by the Commission's F Gas Review Expert Group meeting, immediately followed by the Chillventa trade show in Nurnberg, Germany.

Nature's power (30/09/2010 16:29:56)

I've long been in awe of the power of nature - the power to completely destroy enormous structures in a matter of seconds is seen whenever there is footage of a hurricane striking land or when a tornado rolls through a built up area. Maybe it's my childhood memories of witnessing a tornado in Ohio ripping up trees that has just stuck with me - it certainly is an image to behold.

F Gas Review: 3kgs References (18/06/2010 11:41:51)

I've given some thought to my last blog - I had great difficulty in keeping it brief and probably ended up cutting out some important information. When reader Steve Walker promptly posted a comment about the 3kg references being removed completely I thought a follow up blog just on that topic would be a good idea.
