LJJ completes first of five installations for Lidl

LJJ, the building services contractor, has completed the first of five mechanical and electrical installations at new Lidl stores in the North East of England, with the handover of the Houghton-le-Spring store in County Durham.

LJJ, the building services contractor, has completed the first of five mechanical and electrical installations at new Lidl stores in the North East of England, with the handover of the Houghton-le-Spring store in County Durham.

The five mechanical and electrical fit out projects follow various Lidl store re-fit schemes successfully delivered by LJJ for the rapidly expanding food retailer in the past and involve three different main contractors.

The mechanical services installation includes a full MVHR ventilation system, which has been designed to recover heat from the stores’ refrigeration units for use in their heating and cooling systems. LJJ will also install all heating, water services, drainage and sanitary ware.

The electrical installation includes small power, internal and external lighting and the building management system.

All five stores are part of the roll out of Lidl’s new format, ‘Lidl of the Future’ which will see the retailer move to two new store layouts; the 1,400m2 Type 14 and the 1,700m2 Type 17. LJJ will carry out a full mechanical fit out and core electrical services installation on four Type 14 stores and one Type 17 store, each of which will be delivered in a 10 week building services programme.

Handover of the Houghton-le-Spring store will be followed this month by completion of the new Grangetown Sunderland and Blyth Lidl stores, with handovers of projects in Stockton-on-Tees and Swalwell to follow in January.

As a national company with its headquarters in Stockton-on-Tees, LJJ has the local resources and supply chain relationships to deliver all five programmes concurrently with continuity of team across the Lidl stores.

Lee Denton from LJJ said: “These five stores are part of a national expansion of Lidl’s store network and are amongst the first to bring the new, brighter, more spacious store format to shoppers. We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver the mechanical and electrical installation on all five schemes by three different contractors.”

He continued: “Thanks to our established supply networks and teams in the North East, we have been able to add value for the client by ensuring continuity of personnel. This has helped us to deliver the Houghton-le-Spring store and is also ensuring that we are on track to hand over the following schemes on time too.”
